Tenney Lock is a historic lock located on the Yahara River in Madison, Wisconsin, USA. The lock is situated at the southern end of Tenney Park, and it connects Lake Mendota to Lake Monona, allowing boats to navigate between the two lakes.
The Tenney Lock was built in 1908 as part of a system of locks and dams designed to improve navigation on the Yahara River. The lock has a single chamber that is 110 feet long and 34 feet wide, with a lift of about 6 feet. The lock gates are manually operated, and they are made of wood.
Today, the lock is operated by the City of Madison Parks Division, and it is open for public use during the boating season, which typically runs from May to October. I am a nature and landscape photographer based in Madison, WI, with images from around the world. I am originally from Australia, but have lived in New Brunswick, Canada, and Socorro, New Mexico, before moving to Madison. I am trained as a geologist, and still teach introductory geology classes (need to pay the bills somehow).. The love of the outdoors has strongly influenced my photography, initially in Australia, but then in the the NW Territories of Canada (I was there doing geology), and the desert of New Mexico. Now I find the beauty around where I live in Madison. If you live in the Madison area, contact me, and I can print images for you (save on postage).
