Artist's Description
Loch Maree, on the Dusky Sound Trail between Lake Manapouri and Supper Cove in Dusky Sound. The dots in the lake are tree stumps which formed the a landslide dammed and flooded the valley (forming the lake). The prominent peak in the background is Mt Chisholm.
After I finished graduate school, and before I moved to North America I spent 6 weeks backpacking (tramping/bushwalking) in the Fiordland Region of the South Isalnd of New Zealand. The Dusky Sound Trail was one of my solo walks.
This photo is digitized form slide film using a macro lens on my camera.
About Steven Ralser
I am a nature and landscape photographer based in Madison, WI, with images from around the world. I am originally from Australia, but have lived in New Brunswick, Canada, and Socorro, New Mexico, before moving to Madison. I am trained as a geologist, and still teach introductory geology classes (need to pay the bills somehow).. The love of the outdoors has strongly influenced my photography, initially in Australia, but then in the the NW Territories of Canada (I was there doing geology), and the desert of New Mexico. Now I find the beauty around where I live in Madison. If you live in the Madison area, contact me, and I can print images for you (save on postage).
