Artist's Description
A prescribed burn in the Curtis Prairie of the UW Arboretum in Madison, Wisconsin. Burning is an essential part of a prairie ecosystem. This burns of the dead grasses form the previous season, and allows healthy growth of new grasses.
About Steven Ralser
I am a nature and landscape photographer based in Madison, WI, with images from around the world. I am originally from Australia, but have lived in New Brunswick, Canada, and Socorro, New Mexico, before moving to Madison. I am trained as a geologist, and still teach introductory geology classes (need to pay the bills somehow).. The love of the outdoors has strongly influenced my photography, initially in Australia, but then in the the NW Territories of Canada (I was there doing geology), and the desert of New Mexico.
