Artist's Description
The statue of Forward (or Miss Forward) at the top of State Street iii front of the Capitol in Madison Wisconsin. The gold statue on top of the Capitol dome is named Wisconsin (but often misidentified as Miss Forward). The current statue is actual a replica of the original statue created by Wisconsin sculptor Jean Pond Miner (which now resides in the Wisconsin Historical Society). The statue was constructed to be an “allegory of the devotion and progress she believed her state embodied.”
About Steven Ralser
I am a nature and landscape photographer based in Madison, WI, with images from around the world. I am originally from Australia, but have lived in New Brunswick, Canada, and Socorro, New Mexico, before moving to Madison. I am trained as a geologist, and still teach introductory geology classes (need to pay the bills somehow).. The love of the outdoors has strongly influenced my photography, initially in Australia, but then in the the NW Territories of Canada (I was there doing geology), and the desert of New Mexico.
