Mt Cook (Aorak)i, in the New Zealand Alps, as seen from Lake Matheson. Mt Cook is the highest mountain in New Zealand at 3724m (12,218ft). The New Zealand Alps are formed by oblique slip on the Alpine Fault, which separates the Indian-Australian Plate from the Pacific Plate.
