Description
The statue of abolitionist Col. Hans Christian Heg marks the King St side of the Capitol in Madison, Wisconsin. Heg was an immigrant from Norway and opposed slavery. He was the state prison commissioner and advocated for vocational training rather than punishment for prisoners. The dome of the Capitol is lit up to celebrate the Green Bay Packers winning the Super Bowl.
The statue was torn down and thrown in Lake Monona during Black Lives Matter protests in June 2020.
