Detail of the statue on the left side of the Camp Randal Memorial Arch, on the campus of the University of Wisconsin, Madison (available here as a color or black and white photo). Camp Randall was a training facility for the Union Army during the Civil War and the memorial arch was erected in 1912. The left hand statue (also available here) represents a young soldier ready to march to war, with the dates of the Civil War. The right hand statue represents a veteran returning to Camp Randall nearly 50 years after the war. 1912 represents the year the arch was dedicated.
