Description
St. John the Baptist Church is a historic Catholic church located in the village of Arena, in Iowa County, Wisconsin, United States. It was built in 1899 in the Gothic Revival style, with a distinctive bell tower rising 105 feet above the surrounding countryside, in stark contrast to the surrounding corn and soy fields.
The church was designed by local architect Fredrick Velguth, who also designed several other prominent buildings in the area. It features stained glass windows, a hand-carved altar, and an ornate pipe organ, which were all imported from Germany.
St. John the Baptist Church is listed on the National Register of Historic Places and is one of the most iconic landmarks in the village of Arena. The church is still an active Catholic parish, serving the local community with regular Masses and other religious services.
